Philosophy

At Village Preschool, we believe that creative play is the foundation of learning for children. We believe that children and parents benefit from a strong relationship between family and school.  Our objective is to provide a safe and inviting space for exploration and discovery, and an appropriate curriculum that enhances individual creativity and self-esteem.

The Village Preschool philosophy is that children learn through play.  We provide:

  • A safe, inviting physical space for exploration and discovery
  • An appropriate curriculum that enhances individual curiosity, creativity, self-esteem, problem solving and social skills
  • A rich variety of experience in language, music, art and science that proceed at the child’s own pace and relate to awareness and discovery of the world and its peoples
  • A program that fosters awareness in children that they are part of a diverse multi-cultural, global community and that their actions influence the quality of that community
  • A nurturing environment with choices for individual or group activities, quiet or active play, and adult/child interaction.

At Village Preschool, we believe that both children and parents benefit from a strong relationship between family and school.  We provide:

  • An atmosphere and spirit of cooperation in our system of parent involvement in all phases of the school program and administration
  • Opportunities for parent education on topics related to their child’s development, parenting skills, community resources and other educational related topics
  • A program of family support and family-centered events and activities that enhance and enrich both the school environment and home life

What is a Cooperative Preschool?

A cooperative preschool is formed by a group of parents who organize to provide their children with a quality preschool experience.  It is administered and maintained by the parents on a non-profit basis.  Parents assist in the classroom and participate in all aspects of the children’s activities.  The parent education program carried on throughout the year is an original feature of the cooperative preschool.  Parents, children, and their teachers all share in the learning experience.

At Village Preschool, we believe that the foundation of learning for the young child is creative play. Play is the means by which children learn about the world around them, test their knowledge and skills, problem solve and express their ideas and feelings. Our preschool makes provision for children’s constructive play by providing a warm and nurturing environment, a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and intelligent supervision.

Village Preschool is a member of Parent Cooperative Preschools of Oregon (PCPO). The PCPO provides a wide variety of information, ideas, education and program materials.  We are also a member of Parent Cooperative Preschool International, which serves as an educational and insurance resource.

Through parent participation we are able to keep tuition low and ensure a good adult to child ratio.
