Teacher Mary, Teacher Carol and Teacher Denise work as a team to provide consistency and stability for the children, creating a peaceful yet engaged classroom of learners.
TEACHER MARY
Many families return to Village Preschool with their second and even third child because of our very special teacher, Mary St. Martin. Teacher Mary has taught in co-operative preschools since 1983. Prior to working at Village Preschool, Teacher Mary taught at the Beaverton Co-op Kindergarten and Preschool for 10 years and also taught at Vermont Hills Preschool. Mary has worked with the Multnomah and Washington county Early Intervention program for children with special needs and as a teacher assistant in the ESL (English as a second language) program for the Portland Public Schools. She has two years of Early Childhood Education classes and continues her education as an active member of the Oregon Association of the Education of Young children (OAEYC) and Parent-Child Preschools of Oregon (PCPO).
Teacher Mary’s ability to see the world through a child’s eyes makes her a very effective teacher and wonderful influence on our children.
TEACHER CAROL
Our assistant teacher Carol Kershner’s daughter and son are both Village alums. As a Village parent, Carol served two years on the board, one as co-president. At Stephenson Elementary, she has experience leading groups of students in Art, Advanced Math, and Junior Achievement. Carol also is a reading tutor and has coordinated activities for the Stephenson Elementary’s Multicultural Celebrations. After school, Carol manages her daughter’s Destination Imagination team. Carol and her family live in a small house with a big garden and lots of pets. She likes running, yoga, and music.
TEACHER DENISE
Teacher Denise has been a Village parent for three years. She restores Native American tapestries. Her family loves to garden and play outdoors. Teacher Denise was also a midwife and is a Renaissance woman.
