Duties/Fees

CO-OP MEMBER DUTIES
A cooperative preschool can only function smoothly if all members participate fully.  The following is a description of parent responsibilities:

  • Assist in classroom as required based on enrollment, and bring a healthy snack. (about 5-6 times per year)
  • Sign up and participate in two Work Parties during the year and as needed.
  • Fill one of the jobs necessary for the smooth operation of the co-op.  These jobs vary in time and commitment.
  • Attend two business meetings (outgoing families need not attend the Spring Orientation Meeting), two educational meetings, and curriculum night (held in the evening).
  • Pay operating fee prior to start of school year.
  • Serve as a driver/chaperone on at least 2 field trips during the year (senior class only).
  • Participate in Village’s main fundraising event (i.e. Silent Auction)

PARENT HELPING
Each member of the Co-op is expected to work in the classroom and be available as an emergency alternate on a specific number of days during the year. Each family assists in the classroom about 5-6 times a year.  The exact number is determined by the number of enrolled members as well as a consideration for multiple children.  Members are to sign up for their required number of days on a master calendar at each membership meeting.  A monthly calendar is always posted in the classroom, and all changes with in the current month should be noted on this calendar.

It is assumed that childcare arrangements will be made for younger siblings on your parent helping days.  We encourage parents to network among themselves or with the help of their class representative to do this.  Having a younger sibling in the room takes away from a parent’s time to fulfill obligations in the classroom.  The one exception will be infants, and you are encouraged to bring someone else with you who can help with the infant.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
There are five required meetings each year. They are an obligation of co-op membership, and are the most important part of our parent education program. Each family is expected to be represented.

  • Fall Orientation (Business Meeting)
  • Spring Orientation (Business Meeting)
  • Curriculum Night
  • Winter General (Education) Meeting
  • Spring General (Education) MeetingOther Dates To Remember
    Silent Auction: Early February
Home Visit for New Families:  Late August

WORK PARTIES

We schedule Work Parties to maintain and upgrade our facilities; we may also use work parties to fulfill our obligation of in-kind services to St. Marks.

  • Each Work Party will be pre-approved by the board, and will usually last three hours.
  • Each family is required to participate in at least two work parties per year.
  • For each adult in attendance, one work party is considered completed.  (i.e., Two adults from a member’s family may attend the same work party, equaling two work parties completed.)
  • Members can pay $50.00 to opt out of one of their two required work parties. To opt out, the member must contact the Work Party Coordinator prior to the work party.
  • Children are not allowed to attend work parties.
  • Families are required to sign up in advance for work parties.
  • After a member signs up for a work party, he/she is required to attend, find a replacement, or pay a fine.
  • The fine for missing a work party is $75.00
  • There are at least three scheduled work parties throughout the year.
